Once you start looking for  home based business opportunities, you will be flooded with so much information; weeding out legitimate opportunities from the scams can be a full time job. Except you won’t get paid. Don’t get sucked into fantastic claims about making $40K filling out surveys or mystery shopping. Not that these opportunities don’t exist; just find out more about them when you are not trying to figure out how to pay the mortgage and put gas in your car.

These are some of the questions you will need to ask when choosing a home based business opportunity.

  1. Will you be cold-calling?
  2. Are there start-up costs; do you need to purchase inventory?
  3. Is the product/service reasonably priced?
  4. What are the commissions and bonuses?
  5. Is there a demand for these products/services?
  6. How do you advertise your new business?

What does it take to be an entrepreneur in this economy?

  1. It helps if you have minimal bills. My intuition says stay out of debt as much as possible. But entrepreneurs with good credit who just need some startup capital can take advantage of low APR and even 0% APR introductory rates; it is essential to have a plan to pay the entire amount before the introductory period ends.
    Citibank offers a great  CITI® PLATINUM SELECT® VISA®

Apply Now  0% Intro APR on balance transfers and purchases for 18 months. After that, the variable APR will be 11.99%-21.99% based on your creditworthiness.*
Extra Cash from Citi: enjoy discounts on gift cards, travel, merchandise and more  Citi® Identity Theft Solutions
    No annual fee*

  2. Lower the bills you have.  Did you know you can cancel an expensive land line telephone service when you sign up with Phone Power, an eco-friendly company that can save you money.   Phone Power has residential and small business service packages that range from ultra-low-cost metered outbound calls, unlimited inbound residential service, all the way up to virtually unlimited outbound calls including a secondary Cloned Line and virtual numbers. All of the residential packages come with Phone Power’s rock-solid feature set, including Click2Call built into their website. The service does not require additional software and works with any operating system with a modern web browser.

I found a great site that reviews business opportunities found online http://www.scamxposer.com/. The “not recommended” list is a lot longer than the “recommended” list. There’s a lot of great information here!

I had an interesting phone call this morning and made an apt to find out more about www.more4families.com. I don’t know what the business opportunity is yet, but I love the website and we had a great conversation! Sounds like pie in the sky, but who knows.

She had me in tears, I was so moved by what she shared with me. Then I found this article – http://thecoastnews.com/2012/01/more4families-helps-find-whats-important/ . They have an ad on craigslist that says no selling, no inventory, no cold calling. So we’ll see.

I am happy to report how much I have accomplished since I lost my job. I have learned so much about jobseeking online, the San Diego job market, how to look for a telecommute job, freelancing, recruiters, resume writing services, and so much more; I have focused on telecommute jobs because I’m so devoted to working from home. But I am also researching agencies for part- and full-time work, and other opportunities.

I received calls from Robert Half Agency in UTC and San Diego Jobs in Mission Valley. Both agencies saw my resume on www.monster.com, so that was encouraging. There are so many great resources for jobseekers, including people who want to work from home, and I will provide more links soon as I can.
